What are Microgreens? Microgreens are tiny edible plants, usually vegetable garden plants, that are grown in quantity and harvested while they are still juvenile plants. They are grown in a medium like soil or a hydroponic grow pad, and are usually grown and harvested at about 10 days, which is usually 7 or 8 days past the sprout stage.

They are grown in trays and can be grown right on your kitchen countertop or outdoors on a porch or patio. They are used in salads, sandwiches, slaws, soups and garnishes.

I tried sunflower sprouts from a local farmers market recently...and totally fell in love!!! They are my new favorite veggie. Add to salads, even sauté a side to go with meat...or just eat 'em plain.

These seeds seem to be a very high quality and give me a terrific growth of sprouts. You can Google how to grow them...not in a jar like other sprouts. And do not eat the shell that falls off, or the root end. Grow to about 4-5 inches tall and then slice off.

I grow mine in a plastic shoe box from the dollar store with a craft store piece of plastic mesh cut to fit the bottom of the shoe box. Soak seeds over night in a jar, then rinse in a jar twice daily for a few more days, then put them in a colander, wicker basket, or my shoebox deal. Continue to rinse twice daily. Once they have secured themselves to the colander, basket, or whatever you can rinse fairly hard under running water to help wash off the black shells.
