Product Description

Green velvet boxwood is one of the hybrids developed in Canada at the famous Sheridan Nursery.These hybrids can withstand very cold temperatures and maintain good color. Green velvet has a medium leaf,excellent color, and a very full habit making it ideal for many applications. It is one of my favorite boxwood due to its handsome, rounded, full-bodied growth with small dark green leaves. Like most modern cultivars, it is a hybrid of Korean Boxwood (for hardiness and compactness) and American Boxwood (for excellent leaf color in both summer and winter). During late winter the leaf color is best described as dark green with a bronze hue. Green Velvet Boxwood can be used individually or in clusters and is commonly used as a hedge or foundation planting. It is easily sheared into different shapes.This item is for 10 two year Green Velvet plants about 8-10" tall and 2-3" wide. These are shipped bare root wrapped in moist sphagnum moss and plastic. I ordered 3 lots of 10. I am very pleased with my shipment!

I've had various results when ordering bare root plants. Sometimes nurseries just put little hydrated gel chunks mixed in with the bare roots. Sometimes that works OK. But recently I got plants (from some other nursery) whose roots were pretty dry - even with those chunks. I'm not sure they'll survive.

But I was pleasantly surprised when I got these boxwood seedlings. Each seedling was packed in some sort of sphagnum moss and individually wrapped in its own plastic baggie and then rubber banded. I've never seen such attention to detail. I have much more faith that these will survive than I do with some other nurseries.

Also, some nurseries prune the heck out of their roots and don't seem to have many fine roots - which actually absorb nutrients and moisture - left by the time I get them. But these seemed to have the whole root system intact. 'Course, maybe it was 'cause these particular seedlings were pretty small.
