Product Description
Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass Seed grows a unique compact-type variety from Turf-Seed, Inc. which possesses the qualities most desired by turf-grass professionals. Those qualities include:A very dark blue-green color
Dwarf growth habit
Very high tiller density
Drought tolerance
Strong overall disease resistance
Good tolerance to close mowing
More than 15 years of proven performance!
Probably the most outstanding feature of Midnight Kentucky bluegrass is its unusually dark blue-green color giving it a rich color even under low maintenance conditions. Its high tiller density provides a thick carpet that will stand up to the abuses of athletic fields and high traffic. Sod producers and homeowners alike will enjoy Midnight's dwarf growth characteristics which result in fewer mowings and lower maintenance costs.
This outstanding cultivar shows good resistance to leaf spot and stem rust, stripe smut and dollar spot. University trials have documented Midnight's heat and drought tolerance.
Special Note: Because of its very noticeable dark green color you may need to use caution with using Midnight to overseed high visual-impact sports field stands. Proper / even overseeding must be used. Midnight is at its best when used as a pure mono-stand lawn grass... but it also can be mixed into existing KBG stands to improve home lawns.
1LB Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass Seed Review
I bought a bag of this to help fill in the major bare patches I have in my back yard. I mixed this with some Scotts KBG blend and a fescue rye blend. The Midnight blue has been growing the best so far. It's distinctive color is easy to spot among the different grasses. I also planted a few seeds in a pot. I put some of the fescue/rye blend, the midnight blue, and some of the Scotts in different areas of the pot so I could monitor the growth. The midnight blue sprouted first and is spreading fast. The Scotts took a out a week longer to sprout and it produced very few blades. The fescue/rye blend is growing tall, but it doesn't spread like the KGB does. This seed is totally worth the money. I will be buying more next year when I overseed, to make for a thicker lawn. I live in Bakersfield, CA, so it is a desert environment, very little rain and high temps. So far we had about a week in the 90's with no ill effects to the grass. I water twice a day for about 5 minutes at a time.
