Genovese Basil is a large, dark green Italian variety with a spicy taste, commonly used for making pesto. This is a very productive strain with a high leaf to stem ratio. Basil plants tend to grow 14 - 20-inch tall and are slow to bolt, extending the harvest period late into fall. Genovese Basil seeds can be planted indoors 6 weeks before transplanting outdoors after the last spring frost, or they can be planted directly outdoors after the last spring frost date. I planted these in clay pots in organic soil and have had them sprouting up. Although advised to use south facing windows, I only have north facing windows and they have been doing well. Still early in the process so hard to tell the finished product but excited to see them growing. Soon I'll have fresh, organic basil! Saves money and exciting to grow it yourself.
