WHITE BIRD of PARADISE PLANT Strelitzia nicolai
The White Bird of Paradise is a spectacular and exotic tropical plant native to South Africa. Bird of Paradise plants produce great numbers of exotic flowers several times a year. These spectacular, large, complex flowers, up to 10 inches or more have striking white plumes with midnight blue beaks and are very long lasting. Each stem has 4 flowers so carefully split the green beak to release them. The leaves are also showy with a pale blue-gray underside. These are the flowers and leaves used in floral arrangements. This unique perennial can take light frost and is also fairly drought tolerant. Hardy in zone 8 or above but can be grown in containers indoors with sufficient light. The plant looks it best when fertilized and watered frequently and make a great companion plant to orchids. No special skills are needed to grow them and they are very tolerant of maltreatment. They are very fast growing. Our sale plants are actively growing in 3-inch pots and are 3 plus inches tall.
