Product Description

This Southern shrub is appreciated for its hypnotically-scented, pure-white flowers blooming on and off throughout summer. In its off-season, it forms a rounded evergreen that provides a nice foil to low-growing perennials, or easily stands alone. Grow in full sun or partial shade. In siting, plant with protection from winter winds and near a window or patio where the fragrance can be enjoyed. This selection suffered no winter damage at 0 degrees F.

The Daisy Gardenia also makes a great houseplant prefering a sunny location.

Used for tea flavoring in China.

Hardy Daisy Gardenia - Hardy 0 degrees - Great Houseplant - Kleim's Hardy Review

I ordered two Kleim's Hardy Gardenia (daisy gardenia) from Hirt's on September 14, 2012 and they arrived 5 days later on September 19. They were wrapped in brown paper and shipped with biodegradable peanuts.

The two plants are small which is what the website indicated.

One measures 3 1/2" tall, with about 35 leaves.
The other measures about 4" tall, with about 50 leaves.

The leaves are very small which is apparently normal for this plant which is a mounding type. When mature, the plant is about 2 to 3 feet wide and high.

According to directions, they are hardy to 0 degrees, which is zone 6. I live in Rhode Island (below Massachusetts), with RI being in zone 6. I read somewhere else that they are hardy to zone 7 (rather than 6), so I plan to update regarding if the plants survive the winter.

September 29, 2012 Update

I left the two plants in their plastic pots and gave it water and some sun. It has only been about 10 days, and the plants are growing.

October 15, 2012 Update

Yesterday, I planted the 2 plants into the ground. (Incidentally, the leaves from the trees are starting to fall here in RI.)
