I installed a raised bed this year but could not get it filled with compost until August. The only things I could plant at that time of the year were snow peas and lettuce. Couldn't find any lettuce seeds in the local garden store so I got seeds from Amazon. I bought three types - butter, this one (oakleaf) and mixed mesclun. Out of all three, thhe oakleaf had the poorest germination rate. I still had a good portion germinate but I am guessing it was less than 60%. Just paled in comparison to th other types. However, once the seedlings got established, they have taken off much faster than the butter lettuce. Just be aware and overseed to compensate for the poorer germination rate.
