Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass creates a thick carpet that has an unusually dark rich blue-green color. It is the most popular bluegrass in the United States, and it has many desirable qualities that make it so popular including: dark blue-green color, slow growth habit, drought tolerance, disease resistance, and more than 15 years of proving itself as a great choice! It is recommended for home lawns, parks, golf courses, and athletic fields. It withstands high traffic and stays thick and lush. With soil temperatures of 65F, germination is usually within 28 days. Keep seed moist until germination occurs and gradually taper off with the water, watering deeper but less often. Mowing height for Midnight can be ½ to 2 inches. If planting in the fall, make sure than you have a minimum of 8 weeks before fall frosts for a good establishment.

I planted 20 pounds of midnight seed on Labor Day 2011 in the Boston area. I used starter fertilizer, then with a low setting on a rotary spreader, I seeded. I used about 50% ore seed than they tell you to use. Then lightly raked the seeds into the soil and used a roller. We had rain the next 3 days. I'm glad I covered the area with salt marsh hay because the third day of rain was heavy.

I've go the sprinklers on a timer and started getting grass on day 7. The seed in fantastic. Some of the places where the seed gathered due to the rain are like a thick rug. I can see how it will crown out weeds.

I used Merion Kentucky with my dad many years ago, then Baron in the 80's and now Midnight. This is the best seed I've ever bought.

Too much water on any bluegrass will rot the seed. Too little and the soil will dry out and give little or you nothing. You should expect 85% of the seeds to germinate.

Anyone who disses this grass doesn't know how to plant and cultivate it. Whoever developed this strain deserve a big hug. I can't wait to see the lawn in another month. I give it 10 stars.
