Perfect for displaying on patios, decks or in small space gardens, Cupid is a very fragrant heirloom bush sweet pea that looks particularly lovely planted in containers or hanging baskets. Cupid's diminuative vines grow just 8 to 10 inches tall, then flower in gracefully cascading stems of rose-pink, picotee edged blossoms. These old-fashioned beauties have an ambrosial sweet pea scent that perfumes the air around them. Join us in rediscovering this marvelous antique variety, beloved by many generations.

Sweet Pea - Heirloom Cupid Seeds Review

You'll never find these plants for sale at any nursery, if you want "cupid" you've got to plant them. That said, if you plant containers, you will want these so it's well worth it: they're easy to start, especially if you soak the seeds for a day or two first, I usually start them indoors early and then later on just sow the seeds directly around the edges of my planters. Demure but striking, these look like an Art Nouveau masterpiece, the bicolored blooms in deep rose and shell-pink are almost orchid-like, and the tendrils of vines snaking down the sides of the pots have rather roundish, dime-sized leaves, wholly unlike either the traditional climbing sweet pea or the fern-like "electric blue" container sweet pea. Container sweet peas don't have the exquisite fragrance of the climbers, but they're a favorite of mine for this unusual attribute: they're dainty but they make an unexpectedly powerful statement.

Cold-tolerant, these lovelies are best started early and enjoyed before the dog days of summer set in, sweet peas dislike heat and will begin to bolt as the days start to swelter. Still, kept where there's afternoon shade, spent blooms pinched back, I've had several that lasted throughout summer until frost here in New York City where it gets pretty steamy in the summer.
