Kakai Pumpkins are great to grow. 1. Seeds taste outstanding RAW (they don't have a shell), not to mention roasted in a cookie sheet with a bit of oil (so they don't stick), at 300 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until a good brown is apparent (I make sure to stir around every 8-10 minutes). The Flesh makes EXCELLENT pumpkin pie (edible raw) and pumpkin ice cream. My family came over for Thanksgiving and tried the seeds and the pumpkin (this type for the first time) and were quite impressed enough to attempt to purchase them in Florida with no avail. So I have to grow them next year so everyone can enjoy these wonderful pumpkins again.

If you would like to try the seeds in some stores they are called pepitas and are located usually in the Mexican food asile (quite weird considering this is a Japanese pumpkin).

I had no issue germinating these seeds in a small square bucket probably 12"x12" and with rows of 3x3. I had too many sprout and it forced me to plant more then I expected which wasn't bad as the gophers sure love these pumpkins as well (so we both got some this last season lol).
