Acanthus - Mollis 'Bear's Breeches'  This handsome perennial has deeply lobed, dark green, shiny leaves. In late summer, it bears white flowers with purple-shaded bracts on 90cm (3ft) purple-tinted spikes. It cuts a striking figure in the garden, adding form and structure to planting schemes.

I had one of these years ago, but had moved and wanted another. Nuts n' Cones sent six seeds. They typically take about three to four weeks to germinate and break ground. These broke ground in three weeks. These are beautiful plants and are very underused which makes them fairly unique in the garden. Once established, they are relatively carefree. (I am in an area border line betwixt zones 4 and 5)

The very symmetrical arrangement of the long lasting flowers gives it a very exotic look. The foliage looks like a typical thistle, but are quite soft. Just be aware that until they flower, they really do look like thistles so DON'T pull them out!
